CONSTITUTION OF THE CLINTON VALLEY CHAPTER OF

THE MICHIGAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY

ARTICLE I-NAME

 

Section 1.       The name of this organization shall be the Clinton Valley Chapter of the Michigan Archaeological Society.

 

ARTICLE II-PURPOSE

 

Section 1.      The objectives of this Chapter shall be to acquaint its membership and the general public with the value of archaeological resources; the proper methods of excavation, examination, recording arid preservation of such resources; and to promote the aims and programs of the Michigan Archaeological Society.

 

Section 2.       In particular, the Chapter shall obtain arid record information concerning aboriginal and historic archaeological sites and artifacts of metropolitan Detroit, consisting of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties of the State of Michigan.

 

Section 3.       The Chapter will cooperate with other institutions and organizations with similar interests in the exchange of information.

 

Section .4.      The Chapter may not be used, nor engage in, the private purchase or sale of archaeological artifacts.



ARTICLE III-STRUCTURE

 

Section 1.       The Chapter shall be incorporated as a non-profit organization subject to the Constitution and By-Laws of the Michigan Archaeological Society.

Section 2.       The Chapter shall consist of not less than five (5) members, who shall be residents of the metropolitan Detroit area. Requests of membership and the privileges thereof shall be in accordance with Article IV of the Constitution and Article I of the By-Laws of the State Society.

Section 3.       The Chapter shall have an Executive Board, consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and three (3) Trustees. The immediate past President of this Chapter shall be an ex officio member of the Executive Board. 

Section 4.       The Chapter shall have the power to assess dues on its membership.

 

Section 5.       The election of officers will be by plurality and the assessment of annual dues shall be done annually by plurality ballot at an annual meeting to be held in March of the membership of the Chapter.

 

 

ARTICLE IV-EXECUTIVE BOARD

 

Section 1.       The President of this Chapter shall be chairman of the executive board. This board shall meet at least once a year on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Chapter, and at other times and places designated by the President and Secretary with the advice of the executive board. The Secretary of the general Society shall occupy the same position on the executive board. Minutes of the proceedings of the board shall be kept and may be called for at any business meeting of the Society upon a majority vote of the members present.

Section 2.       The executive board shall have general charge and management of all funds and property of the general Society. It shall make or authorize all necessary contracts and appropriations. A majority of the board shall, prior to payment, approve all bills against the general Society in excess of the appropriation. The board shall have the power, subject to the approval of the Society, to lease and purchase any and all lands or buildings necessary for the transaction of the business of the Society.

Section 3.       The executive board shall act on all business referred to it by the general Society or by a Chapter, and may initiate other business at its discretion. It shall frame its own rules and regulations consistent with the provisions of this constitution and the By-Laws of this organization.

 

ARTICLE V -QUORUMS

 

Section 1.       A total of five (5) in attendance at a regular or special meeting of the Society shall constitute a quorum. Five (5) members of the executive board shall constitute .a quorum at its meeting.


ARTICLE VI GIFTS AND GRANTS-IN-AID

 

Section 1.       The Chapter shall have the power to accept gifts of money or property, grants-in-aid, or other monies offered them from whatever source, said funds to be received and receipted by the executive board. The executive board, pursuant to the provisions of this constitution and the conditions, if any, of the donor, shall administer said funds.

 

ARTICLE VII -ALTERATIONS AND AMMENDMENTS

 

Section 1.       No alterations shall be made in this constitution except by a two-thirds affirmative vote of the membership present at a regular meeting and only after full notice of the proposed changes or amendments and the date of voting shall have been sent in writing to all members at least sixty (60) days prior to the meeting.

 

ARTICLE VIII -BY-LAWS

 

Section 1.       The By-Laws of the Michigan Archaeological Society, as adopted at Grand Rapids April 30, 1955, are hereby adopted as this Society's By-Laws.

 

ARTICLE IX -RULINGS

 

Section 1. When not otherwise provided for in this constitution or the By-Laws of the Chapter, rulings of the Chapter and its executive board shall be those laid down in the most recent edition of Cushing's Manual.
